Give blood in September and you’ll get a free haircut

Associated Press

A critical blood shortage over the summer is leaving the Red Cross urgently looking for ways to restock its supply of blood for the winter. In order to let people “feel good, do good and look good,” the Red Cross has partnered with Sport Clips to offer free haircut coupons to everyone who donates blood or platelets anytime in September.

“We are excited to continue the Saving Lives Never Looked So Good campaign and partnership with Sport Clips this September,” said Donna M. Morrissey, director of national partnerships, Red Cross Biomedical Services in a news release. “We are grateful for Sport Clips showing its support of the Red Cross and saying ‘thank you’ to those helping save lives through blood donations.”

Here how it will work:

Come give blood at one of the more than 20 blood drives scheduled in Columbus, LaGrange and Americus in September, put down your email address, and you’ll get a coupon in your inbox a few days later. The coupon will be valid through Nov. 11 at participating locations.

There are two Sport Clips locations in Columbus — one on Kitten Lake Drive in Midland and another on Whittlesey Blvd.

“Sport Clips is proud to support the blood collection efforts of the Red Cross on a national level,” said Amanda Palm, corporate communications manager of Sport Clips. “There is always a need to maintain the blood supply in our country, and a free haircut is a simple way we can thank donors for their lifesaving donation.”

To find a blood drive, learn the requirements for donation, and schedule a donation ahead of time, you can visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767.
