Here are the top 5 rated pizza places in Columbus and Phenix City

Special to the Ledger-Enquirer

You can fret all day over finding the perfect culinary masterpiece, but there are just some days where nothing sounds better than a cheesy slice of hot, fresh pizza. You won’t be alone — about an eighth of all Americans are eating pizza on any given day, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

That means there are a lot of options for folks looking to find the perfect pie. To help narrow that down, we looked at ratings from TripAdvisor, Yelp and Google Reviews to create a list of the Top 5 best-rated pizza joints in Columbus and Phenix City. To make this a little simpler, we only counted restaurants that specialize in pizza, not ones that include it but don’t make it a main focus.

Grab a slice and dig in.

1. Giovanna’s Pizzaria

This list was originally only going to include Columbus, but the ratings for Giovanna’s were so high that we had to include it. Giovanna’s bright, colorful restaurant is located in downtown Phenix City, and is known for its meaty calzones, strombolis and fresh New York style pizza.

2. Cerrone's Brick Oven Pizzeria

Cerrone’s Brick Oven’s owner won third place in an international pizza competition, and if reviewers are to be believed, he sure deserved it. The locally owned and operated restaurant on Veteran’s Parkway makes all their pizzas by hand, then wood fires them in a brick oven brought down from New York. Reviewers especially love the freshness of the ingredients, the New York atmosphere and the friendly staff.

3. Your Pie

Your Pie is a do-it-yourself pizza place that lets you pick the dough, sauce, and toppings of your own personal pizza. With locations at The Landings and Broadway, the shops are always churning out fresh pies. Reviewers appreciate the novelty, fresh ingredients and quick, friendly service.

4. Johnny's New York Style Pizza

Johnny’s New York Style Pizza is a chain pizza restaurant off Veterans Parkway — but don’t let that turn you off. This place is a huge hit with reviewers, with many saying it’s their favorite non-local pizza joint in town. They love the friendly and accommodating staff and the extensive menu. Plus reviewers say the garlic knots are to die for.

5. Mellow Mushroom

Hippie pizza at its best,” said one review of the Mellow Mushroom on Veterans Parkway. This pizza chain is known for its funky locations, super-cheesy pizzas and vegan options. It may be a standard, reviewers say, but it’s a standard for a reason.
