Dave Eggers, bestselling author of ‘The Circle,’ coming to Auburn Sept. 12
Dave Eggers, international bestselling author of the tech-dystopia satire “The Circle,” will come to Auburn University Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. to speak about his books, share his life experience and provide a free book signing. The event will be held in the Student Center ballroom.
“The Circle,” which was made into a 2017 feature film starring Emma Watson, Tom Hanks and John Boyega, centers on a fictional technology company that slowly encroaches on all aspects of its employees’ (and users’) personal lives.
Eggers is a writer, editor and publisher who has also written bestsellers like “Zeitoun,” “A Hologram for the King,” and “What is the What.”
“The Circle” was part of the “Common Book: One Book One Auburn” program for 2017, in which students, faculty, staff and the wider Auburn community all read and discuss the same book.
“Dave Eggers is an incredibly talented and insightful author, and Auburn University is thrilled to have him visit this semester as part of the Common Book program,” said Jeff LaMondia, program chair for the Common Book: One Book One Auburn program. “We look forward to hearing his unique perspective on the societal impacts of social media and technology as well as continuing the discussion on campus and in the community over the fall semester.”
