Portion of street to be named for former Crimson Tide quarterback Saturday

A portion of Niles Street in LaGrange, Ga., will be named for former University of Alabama quarterback Vince Sutton Saturday.

According to a report from the city of LaGrange, the ceremony will take place at 422 Niles Street beginning at 9 a.m.

The LaGrange City Council voted unanimously to rename the portion of the street between Revis Street and Borton Street to Vince Sutton Boulevard.

Sutton was a star quarterback at LaGrange High School before playing for coach Ray Perkins and the Crimson Tide. He was a starter his freshman season.

He is best remembered for leading a comeback win against Kentucky in 1988.

Most recently, he was a high school football coach at Dawson Street Christian School.

He is currently recovering from a kidney transplant after years of declining health.
