Shelters taking in homeless for safety in storm
SafeHouse of Columbus opened its doors early Monday morning and is providing shelter from the storm for homeless through the night. It will also be helping Tuesday.
“They are all welcome to get out of this weather. We have plenty of room,” said executive director Neil Richardson. “We have never been pushed to our limit.”
He said the shelter on Hamilton Road on can easily host 85 people.
“We serve a hot breakfast and lunch,” Richardson said.
Mitzi Oxford, the director of development at Valley Rescue Mission on Second Avenue, said it is providing shelter for the homeless people it usually does but instead of them leaving at 7 a.m. they are being allowed to stay during the day on both Monday and Tuesday.
