Ride-sharing company Lyft and global beer powerhouse Budweiser are teaming up to celebrate the “late-night heroes” who help drive people home after a night of liquid-enhanced celebration.
To help those drivers have a chance to get their drink on too, Lyft and Budweiser announced they will provide up to 150,000 round-trip rides during weekends and holidays for the rest of the year
The program is called “Give a Damn. Don't Drive Drunk,” and it’s available in 10 states: New York, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, and Washington, D.C.
It’s the second year the two companies have offered the program, and they’ve sweetened the deal for 2017.
Here’s how it works:
Every Thursday, at 2 p.m. Eastern, Budweiser will post a unique ride code on their Facebook and Instagram page. Those over the age of 21 can use it to claim a $20 ride credit — that’s two one-way trips worth $10 each. You can use the credit for rides taken between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.
Just use the app, request a ride, and the driver will take you and your friends to your favorite local establishment and then safely back home.
“We are thrilled to work with Budweiser, a brand that shares our commitment to helping people drink responsibly and get home safe,” said Melissa Waters, Lyft’s vice president of marketing. “This partnership encourages passengers to make the right choice about how they get home and celebrates the drivers who make it possible.”
The Lyft app is available on both Apple iPhone and Android devices. It can be downloaded by searching for “Lyft” in the App or Play store. You can use the app to request a destination and a pick-up location. A driver, vetted by the company, will then come directly to you, pick you up and drop you off at your desired location.
