The National Weather Service says the Columbus area may see some snow later this week.

According to a report on the service website, there is a 40 percent chance of precipitation Friday night with a chance of snow as the temperature goes as low as 28 degrees.

There will certainly be cold weather with rain the rest of the week, a 70 percent chance of precipitation on Thursday and Friday.

To be ready for the inclement weather, the Valley Rescue Mission is adding beds and allowing transients to stay in the shelter Friday through Sunday.

The National Weather Service said that Wednesday afternoon some locations in north and central Georgia were already reporting some light sleet and more can be expected before Saturday.
