MCSD bus slides off road, gets stuck in mud
During the rainy Friday morning commute, a Muscogee County School District bus slid off the road and was stuck in the mud.
No injuries were reported.
Responding to the Ledger-Enquirer’s questions, MCSD communications director Mercedes Parham confirmed in a news release the incident happened near the intersection of Macon and Fulton roads in north Columbus. It happened around 7:30 a.m. while en route to Mathews Elementary School, she said.
School officials immediately contacted the Columbus Police Department and notified parents, Parham said. “Students arrived safely at their destination,” she said.
“The incident is currently under investigation with the Columbus Police Department,” Parham said.
Asked what caused the bus to slide off the road and for how long it was stuck in the mud, Parham told the L-E, “The cause is under investigation. Not certain on time frame of that, but another bus was immediately dispatched to transport students.”
No other vehicles were involved in the incident, she said.
