Coroner names man found dead in Phenix City

Officials have identified 43-year-old Jeffrey McCalister as the man found dead Dec. 8 in a wooded area near Brickyard Road and Colin Powell Parkway.

His body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy. The cause and manner of his death remain under investigation, but Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said they don't suspect foul play at this time.

Phenix City police found the body around 7:39 p.m. Dec. 8. near a campsite between Brickyard Road and Colin Powell Parkway. The coroner said the McCalister was homeless, but he was known to stay in Phenix City.
