Woman killed in Phenix City wreck

A woman was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle wreck on Whiterock Road in Phenix City, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said.

The victim, whose name has yet to be released, was pronounced dead on the scene of apparent blunt-force trauma around 4 a.m. Her body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for an autopsy.

Officials said another individual was taken to the hospital for treatment. Their current condition is unknown.

Sumbry said he was called to the scene on Whiterock Road around 3 a.m. Further details about the crash have yet to be released, but the coroner said speed was a factor.
