Former Central High, Auburn quarterback Jonathan Wallace gets coaching job in Tennessee
Jonathan Wallace, a former quarterback at Central High School in Phenix City and at Auburn University, has accepted a football coaching position at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn.
Wallace made the announcement on Twitter that he will be working there with coach Brent Dearmon.
“I thank the Lord for the relationships, experiences, education, love and support shown to me and my wife these past six years. The memories are imbedded in my life. I look forward to developing and ministering to the young men at Bethel,” Wallace said.
He posted, “I will always call Auburn home. It’s time for the next chapter.”
Wallace has spent the last two years as a graduate assistant at Auburn working with the offense. He is married to a former Auburn soccer player Ashley Kotero who is a member of Auburn recruiting staff.
As a quarterback at Central, he led the team to a 12-2 season and a region championship then played in the 2011 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Game.
At Auburn, he lettered as a quarterback and wide receiver.
He started the final four games of his freshman season and set an Auburn freshman record for quarterback efficiency.
In 2016 he was selected as the team captain and won the Unsung Hero Award.
He was a member of the SEC academic honor roll and the SEC community service team. In 2015, he was awarded the Virgil Starks Passion Award given to the student athlete who best embodies the spirit of Auburn.
