Columbus firefighters douse fire in laundry room of downtown Marriott hotel
Columbus firefighters and police responded to a report of smoke on the 4th floor of the downtown Marriott hotel on 9th Street Wednesday morning.
The call came in after 7:30 a.m., and trucks from the downtown and Brown Avenue fire stations have responded.
Guests have not evacuated the building and are in the ground floor lobby area. There were about 100 guests in the lobby area at 8 a.m.
At 8 a.m., there was still an alarm going off in the building, and at least five Columbus firetrucks were on the scene, including the downtown ladder truck.
Officials had 9th St. from Broadway to Front Avenue blocked off as of 8 a.m.
Officials later confirmed that a fire started in the laundry area on the 4th floor, and heavy smoke remained on the 4th and 5th floors. Firefighters confirmed the the blaze has been contained as of 8:10 a.m. and there was no longer any danger.
