Winter weather update: City closes government offices due to snowy conditions
Columbus Consolidated Government closed most city offices Wednesday morning due to the snowy weather conditions.
City Manager Isaiah Hugley said the city is closed except for emergency personnel and those directed by their supervisors to perform certain tasks.
"Public works has a number of crews putting sand on a number of bridges through the city and other crews on standby with heavy equipment,” he said.
He said METRA buses started work this morning but were pulled back in after about an hour.
"We sent out selected routes, determined where the buses could not travel," he said. “We realized the conditions were too bad and we pulled all the buses back in."
Wednesday morning and afternoon Recorder’s Court sessions have been canceled and will be rescheduled, according to a news release issued by government officials. Court sessions will resume Thursday.
Garbage service also has been canceled for Wednesday.
Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said she was stuck in Atlanta after an engagement there yesterday and is monitoring the conditions and in contact with Hugley and others.
