Sweet warm weather will remain - but rain and storms could come Monday night
The respite from last week’s deep, icy freeze will continue today and through the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service. But keep an eye on the sky this afternoon, because those gray skies could turn into storm clouds later this evening.
The high for Monday is expected to climb all the way to 67 degrees, a world away from the subfreezing temperatures the Valley faced less than a week ago. Even the night should be warm, with a low of 49.
The rest of the week should be only a little cooler, but nowhere near the bone-chilling, teeth-chattering temperatures that paralyzed the city and brought snow and ice across the region last week.
Highs for the rest of the week average about 60 degrees. Lows will be pretty cold, but still above freezing at around 35 degrees on average.
Other than Monday night, the week should be sunny and clear.
But that does leave Monday night.
Tonight we should expect some lighter showers as the afternoon comes on, with about a 30 percent chance of rain between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, with a a much greater chance of thunderstorms and showers later in the evening.
“Gulf moisture will spread rapidly over the region this afternoon ahead of a cold front. This will bring numerous to widespread showers and a few thunderstorms to mainly west and north Georgia this afternoon, and across the entire region tonight,” the NWS wrote in its hazardous weather outlook.
The storms should mostly clear up after 11 p.m., then give way to smaller showers for the rest of the night, forecasters predicted.
