Betty Wright, K-Ci & JoJo coming to Columbus Civic Center in February
Here is something different to think about as a Valentine Day’s gift.
How about tickets to an evening of terrific music and comedy?
The Love & Laughter Block Party is Feb. 16 at the Columbus Civic Center.
The show is hosted by Vivica A. Fox, an actress who had starring roles on two television shows, “Days of Our Lives” and “Out All Night.”
Singers Betty Wright will be the headliner for the show.
Other musical acts are Lenny Williams and K-Ci and JoJo.
Comedians A-Train and Nod Ross are scheduled to appear.
Tickets are $88.50, $68.50 and $48.50. They may be purchased as the Columbus Civic Center box office or online with Ticketmaster.
The Grammy Award winning Wright, is known for R&B hits such as “Clean up Woman” and “Tonight is the Night.”
Clean up Woman reached number two on the R&B charts, where it stayed for eight weeks. It eventually sold more than a million copies.
Wright, who began as a gospel singer and recorded her first album at 14, made history as the first black female artist to score a gold album on her own label, when her 1987 album, “Mother Wit” achieved that certification.
The album was notable for the come-back hits “No Pain, No Gain,” which returned her to the top 20 on the R&B chart for the first time in a decade, and “After the Pain.”
K-Ci & JoJo’s covered Bobby Womack’s hit “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” for the movie “Jason’s Lyric.” Early in 1996, K-Ci & JoJo teamed up for the song “How Could You” for the movie “Bulletproof.”
The act’s “All My Life” was the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 for three weeks.
K-Ci & JoJo’s second studio album, “It’s Real” peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200.
Lenny Williams refers to himself as the “ultimate soul crooner.”
He is known for hit songs “Cause I Love You,” “You Got Me Running” and “So Very Hard to Go.”
