More than 5,000 high school thespians coming to Columbus

The 2018 Georgia Thespian Conference will bring more than 5,000 high school actors, singers, dancers playwrights, designers and stage technicians to Columbus for three days.

The event is Feb. 8, 9 and 10.

This is the 10th consecutive year Columbus has hosted the event.

More than 80 theater professionals and educators from across the country will be leading workshops.

A news release from the organization says hundreds of students will audition here for some of the country’s most renowned university and conservatory theater programs.

Stages at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, the Springer Opera House and Columbus State University will showcase dozens of selected school productions of classic and contemporary musicals and plays.

According to Georgia Thespian website, www.gathespians.org, some of the productions being presented include “The Miracle Worker,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “The Fantasticks,” “Lend Me a Tenor,” “Ragtime,” and “The Wiz.”

In addition to the theaters mentioned, the Columbus Convention and Trade Center and downtown Mariott will host workshops and exhibits.

According to the news release, the Georgia conference is the nation’s third largest thespian conference.
