‘Sweet Beulah Land’ author Squire Parsons to sing in Smiths Station
A special artist is coming to Philadelphia Baptist Church for a special cause on Saturday.
At 6 p.m., singer/songwriter Squire Parsons will be performing at the church located on Lee Road 246 in Smiths Station.
Parsons is expected to sing his classic song “Sweet Beulah Land” along with other favorites such as “Master of the Sea,” “He Came to Me,” “I Go to the Rock” and “The Broken Rose.”
The show is free to the public but there will be a love offering request.
“We are blessed to have Squire Parsons come to our church. Everyone is excited,” Pastor Skip Speed said. “He is one of the great gospel artists.”
He said Sweet Beulah Land is a song heard at many funerals.
The show will be honoring members of the church who have been victims of cancer and those who are still battling the dread disease. Speed said there are several church members in that situation.
“It is something we felt we needed to do,” said Speed, who has been cancer free for 13 years.
According to his website, Parsons was chosen by the “Singing News” magazine as favorite baritone in 1986 and 1987.
In 1986, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 he was chosen as the favorite gospel songwriter.
He has also been nominated for the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards for male vocalist and songwriter.
