Columbus ranks low on list of Georgia’s safest cities
The National Council for Home Safety and Security has released its annual ranking of the safest cities in Georgia and Columbus is nowhere near the top.
The list has Columbus at No. 53 out of 76 cities ranked.
LaGrange at No. 57, No. 62 Albany, No. 65 Atlanta and No. 73 Americus are a few of the cities ranked below Columbus.
Savannah ranked No. 38
To identify the safest cities, the organization, a trade association comprised of home security professionals across the United States, reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with population data and internal research.
The cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 people.
These variable were then weighted with violent crimes assigned a value 1.5 times that of property crimes.
Any city which failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI was eliminated.
Cities with fewer than 10,000 residents also did not make the list.
The top 10 safest cities are Johns Creek, Milton, Grovetown, Peachtree City, Dallas, Roswell, Richmond Hill, Kennesaw, Alpharetta and Woodstock.
