Man dies after getting trapped underneath car, police say

A 33-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon after getting trapped underneath a vehicle on Davis Court, according to Auburn police.

James Brandon Lassiter of Auburn, who officials said was trying to perform repairs on the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 p.m.

Officials responded to the 700 block of Davis Court around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday to assist with a medical emergency. They found medics on the scene trying to rescue a man who was trapped underneath a vehicle.

Officers removed him from underneath the car and first responders performed CPR and other life-saving procedures on him, but he didn't survive.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim’s death was accidental," Capt. Lorenza Dorsey said in a news release. "Lassiter was performing repairs on the vehicle when it shifted and pinned him underneath."

The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
