Former Kendrick High School basketball coach Ronnie Hurtt has been chosen to coach the Georgia Hornets, a local semi-pro basketball team.

The Hornets are owned by Angela Culliver who made the Hurtt announcement in a press release.

The team, which competes in the Minor League Basketball Association and is also associated with the American Basketball Association, plays its home games at Mother Mary Catholic School, 318 Seale Road in Phenix City.

The team has a home game April 7 at 4 p.m. against the Georgia Kingz of Atlanta and on April 8 at 2 p.m. against the Music City Kings of Nashville, Tenn.

Culliver said the team consists of 10 men hoping to get to a higher level.

Hurtt played basketball at Baker High School in Columbus under coach Henry Gresham.

Hurtt coached at Kendrick High School for 31 years.
