Harris County woman dies after wreck on Alabama interstate

A Harris County woman died after a car wreck on I-85 in Alabama on Saturday, according to Auburn Police.

Ruth E. Oliver, 89, of Shiloh sustained fatal injuries in the wreck that occurred around 3:14 p.m. Jan. 4 near mile marker 53, police said in a news release. She was pronounced dead at East Alabama Medical Center.

Oliver was the passenger in a 2015 Toyota Corrola, driven by a 58-year-old woman also from Shiloh. The Toyota struck a 2019 Buick Envision in the rear while traveling in the northbound lane, the release said.

The driver of the Toyota sustained non-life threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, the release said. The driver of the Buick, a 77-year-old man from West Point, was treated on scene and released.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation by Auburn Police.
