Chattahoochee Valley underneath tornado watch this evening

The Chattahoochee Valley is underneath a tornado watch this evening, after predictions by the National Weather Service regarding severe weather.

According to accuweather.com, parts of Columbus and Phenix City are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. local time. Earlier Saturday, the NWS issued various watches and advisories for the area.

The NWS issued both a wind advisory and hazardous-weather outlook for counties in the Chattahoochee Valley area Saturday morning. Severe storms are likely for central Alabama and Georgia, according to the NWS.

Impacts will likely be more severe in Alabama, according to the agency. In Alabama, there are threats of damaging winds up to 70 mph as well as strong tornadoes.

There will be at least one to two inches of rainfall, and there could be higher local amounts. In Georgia, wind gusts could reach 60 mph and the storms could also produce tornadoes.

Until 10 p.m. Eastern time and 9 p.m. Central time Saturday, all of north, central Georgia and central Alabama are under a wind advisory as well. These high, gusting winds could throw unsecured objects around and uproot trees, which could down power lines.
