Traffic alert: Roundabout opening next week in south Columbus. Here are the details.
A new roundabout will finally open to traffic next week in south Columbus.
The roundabout is located at the intersection of Ft. Benning Road, Cusseta Road and Brennan Road and will open to traffic on Monday, according to a press release from Columbus Consolidated Government.
According to the release, there will continue to be lane closures on Cusseta Road west of the roundabout “to allow for replacement of the existing culvert as well as installation of curb and gutter and sidewalk.”
Drivers are still encouraged to proceed with caution in the area due to road construction.
This makes 15 roundabouts in the city with more in the planning phases.
Columbus Council in 2018 passed a resolution supporting the Georgia Department of Transportation’s plans to construct two new roundabouts, one at the intersection of Spur 22 and Lynch Road/Technology Parkway, and the other at Spur 22 and Macon Road.
