It was a record-breaking winter for rain in Macon. Here are the details.

The winter season in Macon was the second rainiest in history, according to data released from the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

According to a graphic from NWS, Macon received 22.71 inches of total precipitation from December 2019 to February 2020. It’s second highest amount on record, only topped by the 1924-1925 season at 23.34 inches.

Here are top five rainiest winters in Macon:

  1. 1924-1925 (23.34 inches of total precipitation)

  2. 2019-2020 (22.71 inches of total precipitation)

  3. 1972-1973 (22.20 inches of total precipitation)

  4. 1982-1983 (20.74 inches of total precipitation)

  5. 2012-2013 (19.78 inches of total precipitation)

Columbus, nearly two hours away from Macon, saw their third rainiest winter season on record . Their total winter precipitation stands at 25.48 inches, 2.77 inches more than Macon.

Despite the lack of snow this year in the Macon area, there have been quite a few historic snowfall events in the city.
