He saved his friend’s life. Now this Phenix City boy is a Medal for Heroism recipient
A Phenix City boy was recognized for his act of heroism that saved his friend’s life while on vacation in Panama City.
Connor Bunce, 10 years old, was awarded the Medal for Heroism by the Alabama Society Sons of the American Revolution, for his actions in saving a drowning friend. ALSSAR President David Jones presented the award with Richard Henry Lee Chapter Secretary Walker Jackson.
Bunce was also awarded a challenge coin by the organization, to make him an honorary member of Sons of the American Revolution.
Four-year-old Kailon was enjoying a pool day with his family when he fell into the water. Bunce saw his friend floating near the bottom of the pool, so he dove down, grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back up.
“I get him up beside the pool and yell, ‘help!’” Bunce said. “And his mom heard me.”
Kailon was transported by paramedics to the Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center and placed on a ventilator. After his condition improved, he was removed from the ventilator on June 22.
According to Bunce, Kailon has recovered enough to where he run around and play again.
