COVID-19 causes delays in yard, bulk waste pickups. Here’s what to know

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and multiple other challenges are causing delays in yard and bulk waste pickup across Columbus, and officials aren’t certain when it’s expected to end.

Currently, pickups are delayed for up to three days, according to a recent post on the Columbus Consolidated Government Facebook page.

Though COVID-19 is the main reason for the delays, other challenges include older equipment and summer storms, according to Deputy City Manager Lisa Goodwin.

“At this time we don’t know when we will be caught up,” Goodwin said. “Once we know, we will provide that information out to the public.”

Staff are working Monday through Saturday to get back on schedule. Residents are asked to continue leaving their items on the curb for pickup.

The pickup delays are not concentrated to any one area in the city, Goodwin said. Household waste and recycling pickups are not currently experiencing any delays.

Residents who don’t want to wait for items to be picked up can take them to the Pine Grove landfill located at 7900 Pine Grove Way. Yard waste can be taken to the Granite Bluff landfill located at 7589 River Road.
