Columbus pedestrian killed in hit-and-run. Victim’s name released.
A Columbus woman was killed early Saturday in a hit-and-run accident, according to authorities.
Jayme Tarver, 40, was struck by an unidentified vehicle while walking across Victory Drive, Muscogee County deputy coroner Charles Newton told the Ledger-Enquirer.
“She is the victim of a hit-and-run,” he said.
Tarver was crossing Victory Drive near the Walmart at the intersection of Benning Drive, Newton said.
Muscogee County coroner Buddy Bryan told the newspaper he was called at 3:17 a.m. and pronounced the victim dead on the scene at 3:40 a.m.
The Columbus Police Department is investigating the case, Newton said. The body will be taken Sunday to the state crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy, he said.
