Columbus River Dragons announce changes to 2020-2021 season due to coronavirus

Fewer fans will be allowed to enter the Columbus Civic Center when the Columbus River Dragons open their 2020-2021 season.

The team announced that “significant social distancing” will be implemented for the upcoming season, which will result in decreased maximum capacity for all home games.

The River Dragons have committed to playing “any form of league competition in 2020-2021,” the team announced. With reduced capacity, ticket prices will temporarily increase, according to the organization.

“The last few weeks have provided much welcomed rays of hope for 2020-21 play” owner Jeff Croop said in a press release. “We appreciate all the hard work put into this effort by the FPHL offices, FPHL partner clubs, and most importantly our extended family in the Columbus Civic Center.”

The River Dragons will be suspending season ticket plans for the season, effective immediately.

All Civic Center games during the upcoming season will be sold as single game tickets only. Tickets will go on sale to the general public November 17.

“Obviously with the number of seats and the number of home games being as fluid as they are, to be able to offer a manageable season ticket membership plan is not possible” River Dragons President and GM Scott Brand said.

“There were concerns of how to administer fair protocols with regards to seats bought and seats available with social distancing as well as the number of games. We hope fans will understand why this change was necessary...”
