About 1,100 Georgia Power customers in Muscogee County are experiencing power outages following a strong storm that moved through the area Thursday afternoon.

According to Georgia Power’s online outage map, the majority of the outages are in the 31904 and 31906 zip codes.

Restoration times for the affected areas were not available around 4:45 p.m.

Customers can report an outage and sign up for restoration alerts by visiting the Georgia Power website.

Strong winds and even some hail passed through parts of Columbus just before 4 p.m. before calming down 15-20 minutes later.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 5 p.m. for Columbus, according to the National Weather Service.

According to Alabama Power, around 500 customers in Phenix City also are without power.
