Georgia gas prices skyrocket overnight. Here’s how much you’ll pay in Columbus, Macon.
With gas prices rising nationwide, Georgia residents saw an average jump of 16 cents a gallon overnight.
Georgia stands at a state average of $3.96 per gallon of regular unleaded, according to AAA. But that amount will likely rise.
“There’s a possibility that the national average will quickly jump to $4.25 or $4.50,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.
The spike will probably continue into midweek before potentially slowing down near the end of the week.
“90% of the recent increase in the last week is probably because of the Russia situation,” he said, referencing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
The Peach state’s average pull price is 10 cents below the national average, as many states have surpassed the $4 mark.
But gas already costs $4 per gallon or more in many Georgia counties, including Bibb, Crawford and Peach counties.
Valdosta, Macon and Brunswick are the most expensive places in the state to fill up, while Rome, Dalton and Gainesville are the most affordable.
Fuel is cheaper in the Columbus area when compared to Bibb County, AAA shows.
Here are some of the county averages across the state, including the Macon and Columbus areas:
- Muscogee: $3.91
- Bibb: $4.00
- Monroe: $4.02
- Crawford: $4.12
- Jones: $3.96
- Houston: $3.96
- Peach: $4.05
