GoFundMe set up for Alabama father who drowned in Lake Harding saving son

A GoFundMe account has been set up to cover the final expenses and support the family of an Alabama man who drowned saving his son.

Jacob Davidson, 30, drowned in Lake Harding after his 6-year-old son fell in the water from their boat Friday afternoon. The boy was wearing a flotation device, but winds pushed him away from the vessel, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told the Ledger-Enquirer.

Davidson jumped in after him, but he was not wearing a flotation device. Davidson’s body was recovered from the water Sunday afternoon, Jones said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe account has raised $18,815 of its original $5,000 goal. Ana Bullard of Valley, Alabama, is the account’s organizer.

“On behalf of the Beulah community and friends of The Davidson’s, we would like to help with costs the family will have,” a post on the page reads. “If you would like to donate any small amount.. it will be much appreciated. We want to help share the grief and ease the burden. Keep praying for this sweet family.”
