$303,560 in meth off Columbus streets thanks to Muscogee sheriff’s office chase
More than $300,000 worth of methamphetamine is off Columbus streets after the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Drug, Gang and Fugitive Task Force, along with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, arrested an uncooperative suspect following a chase Tuesday.
Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman told the Ledger-Enquirer he isn’t releasing the suspect’s name because it could further hinder the case investigation. Here’s how his department described the incident in Wednesday’s news release posted on Facebook:
During an attempted traffic stop, the suspect ignored visual and audible signals to stop the vehicle and tried to elude pursuing officers.
The officers used a maneuver called a precision immobilization technique to catch the suspect. The technique involves the pursuing vehicle gently nudging the left or right rear corner of the suspect’s vehicle to induce a spin and force it to stall and stop.
The driver was detained and found to be in possession of 3.34 kilos of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $303,560.
The suspect was transported to the Muscogee County Jail for charges of trafficking methamphetamine, fleeing & eluding law enforcement officer, obstruction, reckless conduct, failure to maintain lane, window tint, failure to obey traffic device, reckless driving, duty to report accident and driving while license suspended.
