Columbus woman wins $250,000 in lawsuit against Sam’s Club.

A woman who was fired from a Sam’s Club location in Columbus was awarded more than $250,000 from a federal jury after she sued the company for retaliation and discrimination.

The jury awarded Haley Harris $250,000 for emotional pain and mental anguish and $1,171 for lost wages and benefits last week after a four day trial in front of Judge Clay Land in the U.S. District Court in Macon, according to court documents.

Harris, who worked for the company from 2015-19, alleged she was fired after complaining to Sam’s Club that she had been sexually harassed by her coworkers and racially discriminated against. A hostile work environment claim was rejected by Judge Land, according to reporting from Patrick Hoff for Law 360.

According to Hoff’s reporting, Sam’s Club continues to believe Harris was fired for legitimate reasons and is currently reviewing its options.
