A Muscogee County Sheriff’s deputy came to the aid of a woman after a dog attacked her Wednesday afternoon, according to Command Sgt. Larry Marshall.

Sgt. Earl Osborne was flagged down by bystanders and found a woman lying on the ground suffering from a dog bite to the ankle, Marshall said.

The attacked happened at 12th Avenue and Talbotton Road, he said.

He said the officer administered first aid to the victim until EMS services later arrived and took the victim to a local hospital.

The bite was serious enough to leave the inner tissue of the victim’s ankle exposed, Marshall explained.

Animal control arrived and captured the white pit bull responsible for the attack and transported it to the animal shelter, according to the Sheriff’s office.

Marshall said the dog is reported to have been a pet.
