Two individuals will soon be receiving checks for their help with an arson case in Columbus.

Georgia Arson Control presented two checks totaling $8,000 for two individuals who helped provide tips for an undisclosed arson case in Columbus.

The checks were presented Monday by Georgia Arson Control consultant Ken LeCroy to Columbus Fire&EMS Chief Sal Scarpa to distribute to those individuals.

LeCroy told reporters the group gets tips from across Georgia and said the checks reward the people who are coming forward.

“Those people may be putting themselves in harms way to come forward and cooperate with the police department,” LeCroy said.

Details regarding which case is involved were not disclosed in order to protect the identities of the individuals who provided the tips.

LeCroy said the group sees around 50-75 tips come through the state each year.

Columbus Fire&EMS Division Chief John Shull said, “We have a team of investigators and getting information from the community is a big part of completing some of these investigations.”
