Jessica Lynn Kerr, a 16-year-old girl, died at the Columbus Medical Center at 5:48 a.m. today from injuries suffered in an automobile accident Monday evening. Kerr, a LaGrange, Ga., resident, had been flown here by a Life Flight helicopter from the scene of the accident and was in intensive care.
Lee County coroner Bill Harris said Kerr suffered massive head injuries. Kerr, who was driving alone, had been ejected from her vehicle.
Opelika, Ala., police responded to a call at 7:22 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a 1993 Toyota Corolla turned over adjacent to the the northbound lanes of travel. The car was between Marvyn Parkway and Gateway Drive near mile marker 60. The car had been traveling southbound on the highway when it traveled into the median and rolled over several times before coming to rest beside the roadway.
"We're not sure what made her go into the median," said Harris. "There was no alcohol involved."

Captain Allan Elkins said Opelika police are still investigating.
