Top archers around world compete in tournament

Top archers from around the world are coming to this area to compete today through Sunday.

More than 1,300 participants will be in the Archery Shooters Association Pro/AM Tour Classic Championship.

The event, open to the public, is held at the Uchee Creek Army Campground Activity Center at Fort Benning. Countries represented include Australia, Nigeria, England, Canada and Mexico. Archers range in age from 6-70. They will compete in 25 different competition classes.

The event is sponsored by the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Phenix City Chamber of Commerce and MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) at Fort Benning.

More than $100,000 in prize money will be awarded.

There will also be a special free event from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday at the Columbus Civic Center which open to the public.
