The Vietnam Memorial Park on Buena Vista Road, which the late Lonnie Jackson was instrumental in creating, will be the site of a short program on Saturday to unveil a proposed project design sign for a Community Memorial Project to honor the civic leader.
Sponsored by the Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission, the project to honor Jackson will find its home in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park. The proposed memorial will consist of a beautiful circular hardscape design which will include quotes about Jackson from local civic, community and political leaders. A short program unveiling the proposed sign and to kick off the fundraising campaign for the memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the park. During the program, Chairperson Stan Stovall and Commissioner Priscilla Marshall will highlight several ways the entire community can be a part of the project.
The public is invited to attend the program. For more information, call Gloria Weston-Smart at 706-653-4008
