An Opelika teen was taken into custody this morning after authorities found a cache of explosives in his bedroom during a search for stolen property.
Officers were searching a home in the 3000 block of Bradford Drive about 9:30 a.m. when they discovered about pound of TNT in the bedroom of a 16-year-old boy. Authorities were given consent to search the home for stolen property as part of a burglary investigation.
Investigators with the police department, fire department, the hazardous material unit and the explosives unit of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation were on the scene this morning, Elkins said.
The teen was arrested and charged with burglary and theft of property, but he has not yet been charged in connection with the explosives.
