CD releases: New Pornographers, Garth Brooks

If Canadian supergroup The New Pornographers issued an album of pop that's less frenetic than their previous work, would you call it soft Porn?

Find out today, as the band releases "Challengers." The amps may be notched down from 11 (to, say, 9), but the New Pornographers — whose roster includes members of Destroyer, Superconductor, The Evaporators and solo artist Neko Case — have crafted songs as powerful as ever.

In other CD release news, country fans have eight re-released Garth Brooks titles to choose from. And indie neo folk singer David Dondero, who was an influence for Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst, releases "Simple Love."
