A large number of people are expected to hit the water for the holiday, and state officials and private groups are urging them to observe safe practices on the last big boating weekend of the year.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division is teaming up with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the Georgia State Patrol, TEAM Georgia and Mothers Against Drunk Driving to stress the importance of boating safety on the busy weekend.
The number of boating accidents tends to climb on Labor Day and other major holiday weekends in the summer and fall.
