Fire leaves apartment residents homeless

A fire that ripped through a Victory Drive apartment complex drove dozens of people from their homes over the weekend.

Fire fighters responded to Magnolia Gardens Apartment Homes about 6 a.m. Sunday. The blaze destroyed as many as 19 apartments, and some residents lost everything they had, resident manager Gloria Shephard said Sunday.

Shephard estimated that 74 people were displaced by the fire.

The American Red Cross is helping some residents with temporary shelter as well as assistance with food and clothing.
