Americus gets new hospital

People in Americus, Ga., will soon see their ability to get quality medical treatment return.

Sumter Regional Hospital was destroyed by a March 1 tornado. Sumter Regional Hospital East, which is made of interlocking COGIM units, is nearly two-thirds finished and should be open for business by the end of the year. It will feature 76 beds, have a fully functional emergency room, surgery capabilities as well as labor and delivery capabilities.

Located on the old HealthPlex site, Sumter Regional Hospital East will serve as the gateway between the old Sumter Regional Hospital and the new permanent facility which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2010.
