Authorities are investigating the Saturday drowning death of a 3-year-old Salem, Ala. toddler, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies and East Alabama Medical Center paramedics responded to a call in the 5000 block of Lee Road 158 about 5:45 p.m. There, they located the unresponsive Cameron Morehead. The child was rushed to East Alabama Medical Center where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, Harris said. He was pronounced dead in the ER at 6:56 PM.
Cameron apparently drowned in a neighbor's pond. That's where the child's father, David Cameron, found him shortly after he realized his son was missing, Harris said. The father immediately retrieved the toddler from the water and began CPR.
No foul play is suspected and the incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning. Cameron’s body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy. The case remains under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Lee County Coroners Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
