Of course, the battle between Kanye West and 50 Cent is snagging all the press, as both rappers have new releases out today.
More off the beaten path (but worth the trek) is a new CDs by Joe Henry. The musician who first came to attention as an indie countryish rocker in the late 1980s has gotten trippier with every album, and the advance buzz on today's "Civilians" — his 10th record — has been phenomenal.
Meanwhile, Canadian rock act Hot Hot Heat, with a name brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Dept., bring more of their synthesizer-charged punk rock to fans with "Happiness Ltd." Other new discs of note: Kenny Chesney's "Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates," and the soundtrack to "Across the Universe," with 16 covers of Beatles tunes, including Bono's take on "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."
