Bonds set for 3 men accused of shooting cop

Three Columbus men charged with shooting a police officer will each be held with bonds of more than $100,000.

Columbus Recorder's Court Judge Michael Joyner set the bonds at a first appearance hearing today. Blake Harris, 19; Michael Day, 21; and Lonnie Toombs, 21, are being held for the early Saturday shooting of Columbus Police Officer Patrick Knight, who confronted one of the men as he was allegedly robbing the apartment of Darwin Snelling.

Authorities accuse the men of breaking a back, glass sliding door to enter the apartment. When Knight approached the door, a man emerged, shot him, and retreated back inside the residence, said Detective Matt Blackstock.

The three men were later arrested and all gave statements implicating each other.
