12-year-old dies from injuries suffered in crash

A 12-year-old boy Devonta Seawright had died from injuries suffered in a Tuesday automobile accident.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m.

Seawright was riding in a car with his two brothers 17-year-old Leevester Seawright, who was driving, and 11-year-old Deshawn Seawright. Both of those boys were taken to East Alabama Medical Center with serious injuries.

Davonta was taken from the scene of the accident at the intersection of US Highway 29 South and Lee Road 10 in Auburn by helicopter to the Medical Center in Columbus. He was then transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Ga. where he died at 9:59 a.m. Wednesday.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said reports indicate that the Seawright vehicle and another were traveling south on Highway 29 at a high rate of speed. They may have been racing. Leevester Seawright apparently lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway overturning several times and ejecting all occupants of the vehicle.

East Alabama Medical Center EMS responded to the accident with three ambulances. Also responding were the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department, Auburn Police, Lee County Sheriff's office and Alabama State Troopers.

Davonta Seawright's body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

The accident remains under investigation.
