Registe's sister bought him plane ticket to U.S. Virgin Islands

Michael Jason Registe, accused of killing a Columbus State University student and his friend July 20, had his sister buy his plane ticket to the U.S. Virgin Islands, recently unsealed court documents show.

According to the records, Columbus Police told local FBI agents two days after the slayings that Registe, 24, fled Columbus to the island territory. His sister, Monica Registe, is believed to have bought the airline ticket for her brother.

Registe has been the object of a manhunt since July 21, one day after former Hardaway High athletes Randy Newton Jr., 21, and Bryan Kilgore, 20, were gunned down outside an apartment complex on Steam Mill Road in Columbus. Newton died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. Kilgore died at The Medical Center the following morning. He also suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities now believe Registe has left the Virgin Islands and fled to the Caribbean island of Dominica.
