Burglars hit South Columbus restaurants

Columbus Police are investigating the burglaries of two south Columbus restaurants Thursday night or early Friday.

Cirilo Altamirano told police Thursday that he discovered $300 cash and bottles of Tequila worth $169 missing from the Vallarta Mexican Restaurant, 3759 Victory Drive, when he arrived at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to open the restaurant. He said he called police when he noticed the cash drawer was open.

Entry was apparently gained through an east window, causing an estimated $300 damage, according to a police report. Altamirano told police the burglary must have occurred between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Also reported burglarized was Forrest Road Seafood and Chicken, 5425 Forrest Road, between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 5:05 a.m. Thursday.

The building apparently was entered through the south end front door. Taken were a laptop computer valued at $1,399, $45 from a cash drawer and $20 in U.S. coins, the report states.
