Teen is city's 26th homicide victim

A Columbus man was shot and killed Friday morning after getting into a fight in front of an apartment complex.

Nineteen-year-old Dwayne Cherry was shot in the back of the head in front of the 208 building of the Wilson apartments on 8th Avenue at about 11:45 a.m., police said.

He had been fighting with Briceston Goober, 18, moments earlier.

Columbus police Lt. Mark Starling said Goober got the worst of the altercation, went back to his apartment, came back with a gun and shot Cherry in the back of the head.

Warrants have been issued for Goober, a black male, 6 ft tall and 175 pounds, with braided hair.

Lt. Starling said he is armed and dangerous.

Columbus police arrested Goober's sister, Asia Jackson, 17, as an accomplice to the murder.
